Sylva & Dillsboro — Brewery Main Street, River Crafts & a Tuckasegee Float

A relaxed day west of Asheville into the Tuckasegee River valley, pairing two small Jackson County towns that sit barely a mile apart yet feel entirely distinct. Sylva is the county seat, its compact Main Street climbing toward the photogenic 1914 courthouse and its stately staircase, now lined with an unusually dense cluster of craft breweries, coffee roasters, and independent shops for a town its size. Dillsboro, just downriver, is a walkable riverfront village of potters, glassblowers, and weavers where the crafts tradition of the southern mountains is very much alive. Between and around them runs the gentle Tuckasegee, one of the most beginner-friendly float rivers in the region — a cold, clear, forgiving current perfect for a lazy afternoon on a tube or in a rented kayak. The day is about brewery patios, working craft studios, and slow water.
