Presque Isle — Lake Erie Beaches, Bay Trails & the Erie Bluffs
Two hours north of Pittsburgh, the sandy arm of Presque Isle curls into Lake Erie, sheltering the only Great Lakes shoreline Pennsylvania has — a slender, ever-shifting peninsula of beaches, lagoons, dunes, and migratory-bird magic. Three days here trade the mountains for the great inland sea. Day one is all about the water: miles of guarded swimming beaches and the classic 1873 lighthouse. Day two loops the peninsula's trails on foot and by bike, dives into the excellent Tom Ridge Environmental Center, and takes to the bay on a cruise. Day three heads west to the wild, undeveloped bluffs of Erie Bluffs State Park, then back to the city skyline of the Bicentennial Tower before the drive home.
