Amicalola Falls & the Start of the Appalachian Trail

Springer Mountain at 3,782 feet is the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail — the 2,198-mile footpath stretching to Mount Katahdin in Maine that ranks as the world's most famous long-distance hiking trail. This itinerary reaches the summit via the 1-mile trail from the USFS road parking area off FS Road 42, a straightforward out-and-back hike that takes roughly 30–45 minutes and is well-suited to an afternoon visit.
