Deming & Southwest New Mexico — Dig-Your-Own Agates, Balanced Rocks & Hot Springs
Two and a half hours northwest across the Chihuahuan Desert, the quiet town of Deming anchors one of the most rockhound-friendly corners of the country, where whole state parks invite you to fill a bucket with agates and geodes and carry them home. This three-day escape is built for slow desert wandering. Day one digs for treasures at Rockhound State Park — one of the few parks in America where you're encouraged to keep what you find — and strolls historic Deming's old brick downtown. Day two drifts north to the surreal boulder city of City of Rocks State Park and soaks in the mineral pools of Faywood Hot Springs. Day three tastes Luna County's desert wines beneath the jagged Florida Mountains before the drive home. Rocks, hot water, and wide open sky at an unhurried pace.
