Historic Downtown DeLand
DeLand's downtown is one of Florida's great restoration success stories, a brick-paved historic district of restored early-twentieth-century storefronts that has repeatedly been named among America's best Main Streets. Founded in 1876 by New York manufacturer Henry DeLand, who dreamed of an 'Athens of Florida,' the city is filled with independent boutiques, art galleries, cafes, and a lovingly restored 1920s Athens Theatre. A series of outdoor murals and public sculptures tell the town's story along the walkable blocks. Strolling the shaded streets and dropping into the galleries is the ideal introduction to this cultured, self-possessed small city.
