Cave Country — Roadside Americana, Dinosaur World & the Cave Beneath Horse Cave
An hour and forty minutes south of Louisville, the twin towns of Cave City and Horse Cave sit atop one of the most famous karst landscapes on earth — a country of sinkholes, springs, and caverns that made this a tourist strip long before the interstate arrived. Day one leans into the cheerful roadside Americana that grew up along old Dixie Highway: the life-size dinosaurs of Dinosaur World, the vintage motel signs, and the genuinely remarkable Hidden River Cave, whose entrance yawns open right in the middle of downtown Horse Cave, paired with the American Cave Museum above it. Wigwam Village Inn No. 2, Cave City
The Wigwam Village Inn No. 2 is a genuine American roadside treasure — one of only two surviving locations of the original Wigwam Village chain, where 15 concrete teepee-shaped guest cabins arranged in a horseshoe around a central office have housed travelers since 1937.
