Everglades National Park: River of Grass Kayaking
The largest subtropical wilderness in the United States is three and a half hours south of Orlando — a 1.5-million-acre system of sawgrass prairies, mangrove estuaries, cypress domes, and tidal flats that functions as one continuous, slow-moving river flowing south toward Florida Bay. Three days gives you time to do it properly: the Anhinga Trail boardwalk where alligators and birds ignore you completely, a full kayak day on Nine Mile Pond or in the Flamingo mangrove maze, and a morning on the Pa-hay-okee overlook above the River of Grass at first light when the birds are moving and the sawgrass turns gold.
