Lower Salt River Wild Horse Viewing

Early morning is the best time to find them along the recreation sites — Water Users, Coon Bluff, and Phon D Sutton — when the light is soft and the herd moves down to drink. A Tonto Recreation Pass ($8 per vehicle) is required to park at the day-use sites, sold at machines on site. Keep at least fifty feet back; the horses are genuinely wild and federally protected, and rangers ask visitors never to feed or approach them.
