Lake Havasu City exists in its modern form because of an audacious idea: when London's 1830s river bridge was found to be sinking into the Thames, town founder Robert McCulloch bought it in 1968, had its granite facing dismantled and numbered, shipped it 10,000 miles, and rebuilt it here over a channel dug beneath it — making it, the joke goes, the largest antique ever sold.
