James Pate Philip State Park in Bartlett is the largest state park in Chicago's collar counties — 3,028 acres of restored oak savanna, woodlands, and four lakes, 50 minutes west on I-90. Cantigny Park in Wheaton is the 500-acre estate of Robert R. McCormick, the Chicago Tribune publisher who willed the grounds to the public — formal rose gardens, woodland trails, and the First Division Museum with its outdoor tank collection and WWII exhibits. The Fox River town of Geneva ties the day together with a well-developed restaurant corridor along its historic downtown main street.
