Woodstock Square, Orson Welles & America's Largest Railway Museum

Woodstock, IL is 70 minutes north of Chicago and mostly known for two things most Chicagoans haven't fully registered: the Victorian town square where Groundhog Day was filmed on location for 30 weeks in 1992 (still fully intact), and the Woodstock Opera House, where Orson Welles performed as a teenager in the late 1930s before Hollywood. The Illinois Railway Museum in Union — 8 miles from Woodstock — is the largest electric railway museum in the United States, with 500+ pieces of rolling stock spanning 1880–1970 including operable Chicago El cars and steam locomotives that visitors can ride on weekend afternoons.
