A network of stone stairways and trails links the overlook at the canyon rim down to the pool, so budget time and energy for the climb back out.

Collings Castle
★ 4.5Perched on the bluff above the falls, Collings Castle is a rambling stone folly built by hand in the 1930s by Dr. Ellsworth Collings as a summer retreat, its rough native-rock walls, arched doorways, and turret-like towers set directly into the hillside. Now a weathered ruin open to the public, it's a genuine explorer's playground — you can wander the roofless rooms, climb the towers, and cross the stone bridges, with framed views back toward the canyon and creek below. The masonry is uneven and there are unguarded drop-offs, so watch footing and small children. It's a short, steep walk up from the falls area and one of the most atmospheric spots in the park.

A beloved roadside institution just off I-35 near Davis, Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies has been turning out hand-crimped, deep-fried pies since 1992 — flaky half-moon crusts stuffed with everything from apricot, peach, and cherry to chocolate, coconut, and savory fillings. Honey Creek Swimming Areas & The Caves
★ 4.3Above and below the main falls, Honey Creek spreads into a string of shallow swimming and wading areas — flat rock ledges, gentle riffles, and calm pools that are ideal for families and for cooling off away from the crowded plunge pool. Tucked into the canyon walls near the falls are two small caves you can scramble up to and explore, low natural openings in the rock that kids love and that offer a shady break from the sun. Water shoes are worth having for the slick creek stones and cave floors, and a headlamp makes the caves more fun. The whole creek corridor rewards slow exploration on foot.

Arbuckle Mountains Scenic Overlook
★ 4.6On the way out of the park, pull off at one of the Arbuckle Mountains scenic overlooks along the old US-77 highway and I-35 corridor, where the road climbs through dramatically tilted, banded rock layers — some of the oldest exposed rock in the region, folded and upended hundreds of millions of years ago. Late-afternoon light warms the layered outcrops and the rolling wooded ridges of the range, making it a fine final stretch to stop, stretch, and take in the geology before heading south. It's a quick, free contrast to the water and rock-scrambling of the day and a scenic sendoff back toward the interstate.

It's an easy, air-conditioned last stop right off I-35, perfect for grabbing a road-trip treat or gifts after a hot day at the falls.
