Tucker Lake Trail
The signature hike in the park drops from the mesa tops down to Tucker Lake, a small spring-fed reservoir cradled in the hills at the heart of the property. The trail winds through Cross Timbers oak and juniper, past outcrops of the rusty red Palo Pinto sandstone that gives the range its name, before opening onto the quiet lakeshore where the water mirrors the surrounding ridges. It's a moderate route with real elevation change over rocky, uneven tread — sturdy footwear and plenty of water are essential, as there's little shade and no reliable water on the trail. The lakeside makes an ideal turnaround and rest point before the climb back up.

Hell's Gate
Hell's Gate is the signature landmark of Possum Kingdom Lake — two sheer limestone cliffs rising some 200 feet from the water, framing the narrow neck where the reservoir pinches between them. Seen by boat, the cliffs tower dramatically on both sides as you pass through the gap; from land, the Hell's Gate overlook gives a commanding view down the lake toward the formation and the deep blue water below. The bluffs are among the most photographed spots in North Texas, and on summer weekends the cove fills with boats rafted up beneath the walls. It's the natural spot to unwind and let the day's heat fade as boats drift in for the evening and the sun drops behind the bluffs. If The Harbor is busy or closed, the small towns of Graford and Mineral Wells along the route home have additional casual diners and grills. A relaxed final stop before pointing the car back toward Dallas.
