A few miles up the Whitewater River valley, Brookville Lake spreads across more than five thousand acres of clear water ringed by wooded ridges — one of the largest and cleanest reservoirs in Indiana and a favorite for boating, fishing, and swimming. The Mounds and Quakertown state recreation areas offer sandy swimming beaches, shaded picnic grounds, and overlooks where the whole blue expanse opens up below. Late afternoon is a fine time to arrive: walk a stretch of shoreline, sit on the beach, or drive to an overlook to catch the light on the water before the return to Indianapolis.
