Snake River Canyon & Alpine — Whitewater, Reservoir & the Salt River Range

Two days of water and mountains south of Jackson, based at the confluence town of Alpine where the Snake, Greys, and Salt rivers all meet. Day one runs the whitewater of the Snake River Canyon, the classic commercial rafting stretch below Jackson where the river cuts a deep gorge through the Snake River Range with named rapids like Lunch Counter and Big Kahuna. Day two shifts to the still water and back roads around Alpine: the vast Palisades Reservoir straddling the Idaho line, the wild Greys River Road climbing into the Bridger-Teton, and the Salt River Range rising to the east, before the drive home up the canyon. It is a raft-and-forest-road weekend entirely outside the national parks.
