Hudson Valley Apple Orchards & Storm King Art Center

A 500-acre outdoor museum in the Hudson Highlands, with large-scale sculptures positioned in the landscape by their artists in collaboration with the museum's curators. Richard Serra's 'Schunnemunk Fork' (1991) — four tilted steel plates anchored into the hillside — frames the valley view; Alexander Calder's 'The Arch' (1975) is a 50-foot stabiles visible from a mile across the meadow; Mark di Suvero's 'Mon Père, Mon Père' (1973-75) is the meadow's emotional center. The tram system provides transportation between the three main exhibition areas for those who prefer not to walk the full circuit.

The museum cafe in the orientation building serves lunch made from Hudson Valley farm ingredients — salads, sandwiches, and soups that change seasonally. The outdoor seating faces the south meadow where di Suvero's sculptures are most concentrated; the view from the cafe terrace is itself a curated landscape composition.

A Hudson Valley winery and distillery in the apple orchard country of the Warwick Black Dirt farming region, producing apple cider, apple brandy, and grape wines from estate-grown fruit. The Doc's Draft Hard Cider is the flagship; the Laird's-style apple brandy aged in new American oak is the craft spirits highlight. The tasting room overlooks the orchard and the Shawangunk Ridge beyond.

A 19th-century inn on Warwick's Main Street serving contemporary American cuisine in a dining room with original wide-plank floors and a center fireplace. The kitchen sources from the surrounding Black Dirt farms — the most fertile agricultural soil in the Northeast. The Hudson Valley lamb, the house-made charcuterie, and the seasonal vegetable dishes are the anchors.
