Cache Valley & Idaho Pioneer: Logan, Napoleon Dynamite Country, and Minnetonka Cave
This three-day northern loop from Salt Lake City moves through the layers of Mormon pioneer, mountain man, and homesteader history that settled the northern Wasatch and the Snake River Plain — starting with Logan's landmark limestone tabernacle and temple, crossing into Idaho to find Preston's Napoleon Dynamite filming locations alongside Franklin's genuine 1860 pioneer heritage, and ending at Minnetonka Cave in the Bear River Range, a 9-room limestone cave where guided tours reveal stalactites and stalagmites in constant 48°F darkness. The journey is as much about small-town Idaho as it is about Utah, and the Bear Lake country on the return route closes the loop with the turquoise water and raspberry milkshakes that Cache Valley residents know as their own private Riviera.
