Island Village & Saratoga Shores

Langley is the most livable village on Whidbey Island — a walkable main street of galleries and independent restaurants perched on a bluff above Saratoga Passage, where gray whales pass within sight of the waterfront restaurants in spring. A 20-minute ferry from Mukilteo and 30 minutes of island driving delivers an experience that feels nothing like the mainland.

4.8
A bluff-top village of 1,100 residents with a walkable commercial strip of galleries, bookshops, and boutiques above the Saratoga Passage. The South Whidbey Tillinghast Seed Company, in business since 1885, still operates from its original building. The Whale Center on First Street tracks gray whale migration and has a viewing telescope pointed at the passage.

Prima Bistro
Langley's most accomplished restaurant, on the second floor above First Street with a view over Saratoga Passage and the Olympic Mountains. The menu uses Whidbey Island farms and the surrounding sea — Penn Cove mussels, Dungeness crab, hand-foraged mushrooms. The French-influenced technique and Northwest ingredients combination produces consistently excellent food.

A 12-acre estate winery in the island's agricultural interior, producing Siegerrebe, Madeleine Angevine, and Pinot Noir from vines planted in 1986 — among the oldest in Washington State. The tasting room occupies a converted barn; the Siegerrebe, a cold-climate German variety, is the island's signature white.
