Penn Cove Mussels & Ebey's Prairie

The 1852 wharf and waterfront buildings constitute one of the oldest intact commercial districts in Washington State — Victorian storefronts, a working fishing pier, and Penn Cove mussel long-lines visible just offshore. The town's 20-block historic district is listed on the National Register; the surrounding Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve encompasses 17,000 acres of the island's agricultural core.

A 17,400-acre reserve of working farms, prairie bluffs, and three miles of Pacific coastline maintained in active agricultural use since the 1850s — the most intact example of mid-19th-century Puget Sound settlement landscape remaining. The Bluff Trail above the landing is 3.5 miles round-trip with views west to the Olympics and east over the prairie to the Cascades.

A 1907 log inn on the shores of Penn Cove with a dining room that serves Pacific Northwest cuisine using island farms and Penn Cove shellfish. Dungeness crab cakes, house-cured salmon, and a wine list featuring Washington and Oregon producers. The waterfront deck is the best evening view on Whidbey.
