Springfield & the Ozark Hills — Battlefields, a Ride-Through Cave & Wonders of Wildlife
The Queen City of the Ozarks sits at the northern edge of the great Ozark uplift, close enough for a full weekend of hills, caves, rivers, and wildlife. This three-day loop pairs the region's outdoor character with its history and its most celebrated attractions. Day one walks the rolling ground of Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, the site of the first major Civil War battle west of the Mississippi, then rides through the underground passages of Fantastic Caverns, the only cave in North America toured entirely by tram. Day two heads into the Ozark hills proper, hiking the rugged glades and clear streams of Busiek State Forest and wading the spring-fed Finley River. Day three takes in the immersive aquarium halls of Bass Pro's Wonders of Wildlife and the gardens and trails of Nathanael Greene Park before the drive home. Nights are spent in Springfield.
