Root River State Trail — Lanesboro Section
The Root River State Trail is 60 miles of paved bicycle trail converted from the former Southern Minnesota Railroad corridor — the flattest, most scenic paved cycling in Minnesota. The Lanesboro section of the trail follows the Root River through a valley flanked by limestone bluffs rising 300 to 400 feet on both sides. The driftless zone geology that creates these bluffs is the result of the last glaciation bypassing this corner of Minnesota entirely, leaving the ancient pre-glacial valley topography intact. Bicycle rental from Lanesboro Civic Center or Root River Outfitters runs about $20–25 per day for a hybrid bike. The trail to Whalan (7 miles east) and back is the most popular day-trip distance.

Sylvan Park — Creek Walk
