Cimarron Valley — Stillwater, Eskimo Joe's & Lake McMurtry
This relaxed two-day escape settles into Stillwater, the college town in the rolling red-dirt country of the Cimarron Valley about seventy minutes northeast of Oklahoma City. Day one wanders the handsome Georgian-Revival quadrangles of the Oklahoma State University campus, then dives into the world of Eskimo Joe's — the cheeseburger-and-cheese-fries institution whose smiling logo has become one of Oklahoma's best-known brands — before an easy drive through the wooded bends of the Cimarron River valley. Day two heads out to Lake McMurtry, a quiet 1,150-acre reservoir laced with hiking and mountain-biking trails, then returns to town for the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and a stroll through Stillwater's revived historic downtown before the drive home. It is a warm, low-key weekend built around a friendly college town, good casual food, and the open prairie horizons of north-central Oklahoma.
