Findley Forest & the Harbor Town of Vermilion

A single day pairing quiet woodland trails with a Lake Erie harbor town, southwest of Cleveland in the historic Firelands. The morning belongs to Findley State Park, a hushed forest of tall hardwoods and pines surrounding Findley Lake, where a network of gentle trails loops through some of the finest mature woods in northern Ohio — a genuine escape into green stillness. By midday the route swings north to Vermilion, a charming nineteenth-century Lake Erie port whose 'Harbour Town 1837' district of white clapboard captains' houses, its lighthouse, and its walkable Main Street lead down to the water. The afternoon is spent along the harbor and out at Main Street Beach, watching the lake open to the horizon before an early-evening return to Cleveland. It is an easy, restorative day — forest walking on soft trails in the morning, a waterfront town and a lakeside stroll in the afternoon — that shows off two very different faces of the Firelands within an hour of the city.
