Day one eases in at Hidden Lake Gardens, a serene 755-acre botanical preserve and arboretum draped over the hills, then steps back a century at the Walker Tavern Historic Site, a preserved 1840s stagecoach inn at a historic crossroads. The night is spent at a lakeside cabin or inn on one of the chain lakes. Day two is pure relaxation on the water — a slow morning along Wamplers Lake, a nostalgic stop at the Stagecoach Stop USA frontier village, and time to swim, paddle, or simply watch the light move across the lakes before the drive back to Detroit. It is an unhurried, green, and quietly nostalgic weekend within easy reach of the city.
